This is the story of an old man, his grandson, and a wolf, and the implacable knot of vengeance that binds them on the mountain, in the distant wilderness of French Canada. Caught in the inexorable blood feud between the old man and the wolf is the young boy. His two desperate encounters with the wolf, as victim and killer, bring about this realization and mark his moment of knowledge and emergence to manhood.
